守備隊が寄せ集めということもあり、あっさり攻略。港内にいた駆逐艦1隻とタンカー2隻が自沈しました。ただし残念ながら同地の油田は全て破壊されており、物資を使って修復が必要な状態でした。スマトラ島やボルネオ島に比べると産油量は低いですが、1滴でも石油が欲しい日本側としては痛手です。
翌25日、スラバヤ陥落の影響で敵船舶の脱出があると判断し、水上艦に港外で待ち伏せさせていました。その結果、

と無事攻略に成功しました。平地の場合やはり重爆撃機による地上支援は有効で、これまでに比べて大幅に戦闘力比が有利になりました。
マンダレーを攻略できましたので、ビルマ方面の占領も確実と言える状況になったと思います。5月末までかかりましたが、南方作戦は完了ということで、次は第2段階作戦の計画を練っていきたいと思います。
